Adventures in poptails: watermelon margarita

Well...... after my total meltdown (heh, get it, *melt*down) from my first poptail attempt, I was determined to create a poptail that would hold together.

I did!  YAY!  See partly eaten watermelon margarita poptail below.

And....... some snapshots.....

Yes, that's mint.  This one was kind of a margarita/mojito mix.  After tasting and blending and straining, I had some mix leftover, and made my self a dandy little drink!

So........ a few things about this drink:
1. It was ridiculously salty
2. It had kind of an odd funky aftertaste
3. No way in any sense of the word did this taste like a margarita (other than salty)

First off, I used the watermelon mint infused vodka that I made last month instead of tequila, which may have been a factor.  Other than that, this was just a little raunchy!  I froze the babies anyways and decided to try them post freeze before making my final veto.

I tried to like them, I really did.

I was super exicted when I saw that they froze, and I was all ready to share the recipe and make everyone happy!  Alas, this recipe totally blows.  2 attempts down and 11 months left to find the perfect poptail for my wedding.

One day poptail...... one day.

  1. You're so funny! I love following your poptail experiments. I want recipes to be fool proof, so I really appreciate what you're doing for science, breaking new grounds and making them safe for the rest of us ('cause you WILL succeed, one day!) :-)

    1. ha! Thanks so much Linn. I'm making some blackberry brandy so I think my next one will involve that. Someday! Someday I'll make a killer poptail.

  2. Ah, too bad! they looked like they were gonna be tasty. I bet adding some jello to the mix, would probably help hold the other recipes together a little, maybe? like a frozen jello shot, but fancier, perhaps. good luck to you! haha

    1. Oh. My. Gosh. Jello is SUCH a great idea! OK- gotta try that one next I think.
Thanks so much for the grand idea!

  3. Trish! This looks amazing AND puppy approved (at least the watermelon part). ;)

Too bad it didn't taste just like a margarita. I'm sure there is a way to make the recipe even better.

I know you'll find the perfect match for your wedding... keep trying! Can't wait to see the other contenders.
