Friendly feature {Misfit Isle}

Helllloooooo world.

We got us a little friendly feature today!!!  Alli from Misfit Isle.  Coffee lover.  Sweetie pie.  Brunette beauty.  Soon to be mama.  Inspirational lady who reminds us to "be a fruitloop in a cheerio world."

This lady writes one of my fave daily reads.  Check her out:

1. Can you describe your blog in about 5 sentences or less?
Misfit Isle is where I share whatever is tickling my fancy that day. I share my DIYs, book reviews, photos, life in the sub arctic, random thoughts, recipes I’ve attempted and sometimes I just write about my lovely husbter, hedgehog and kitten. Also my husbter and I are currently in the process of adopting kids from an orphanage in Ukraine, so I’ve been sharing our adoption story too with all of the highs, lows and confusing paperwork.

2. What do you love most about blogging?
I love having a place where I can just share everything that is happening in my life, so I can reflect and appreciate all the good stuff. Which makes it sound like I really just like journaling, but journaling for me is so fixed and blogging is so alive and interactive. I love the community blogging creates, so I share my thoughts and ideas in hopes of getting some feedback and hearing other points of view on issues. There is a whole world of beautiful, funny, talented, knowledgeable ladies out there, I love sharing and being a part of that world.
3. We both share a love for books, good coffee, and little furry animals.  What are your 3 favorite books of all time?
The Sophie’s Choice of questions, but if Sophie can do it so can I. My top three favorite books are Love is a Mix tape by Rob Sheffield, The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, and Everything is Illuminated by Jonathan Safran Foer…..annnd A Moveable Feast by Ernest Hemingway, Clumsy by Jefferey Brown and Shampoo Planet by Douglas Coupland. Okay, so I cheated, but how can you pick just three?!

4. I LOVE following your adoption journey, especially how positive you have been throughout all of the challenges.  How do you keep your chin up when the going gets tough?
Gratitude, I practice it every day. Life can be ruthless and throw a lot at you from family sickness to bills you can’t pay. But if you look I think you can find at least one good thing about every day, like you woke up and are still breathing that’s a win right there or that beautiful first sip of hot coffee or a sweet dog on the street or a vibrant green tree or a voicemail from your mom. So when things get tough and we need another piece of paper we don’t have, I just try to step away and think that at least I have a sweet kitten in a lap and whiskey in my hand.

Um...... you had me at Jonathan Safran Foer, my other boyfriend. :)  Or Alex, who thinks that women want to be carnal with him because of his premium dance moves.  ha! Thanks so much, Alli!!!  Love your blog, and am super pumped to follow you on your upcoming life adventures.
Trish.

  2. and more importantly, your personal experienceMindfully using our emotions as data about our inner state and knowing when it’s better to de-escalate by taking a time out are great tools. Appreciate you reading and sharing your story, since I can certainly relate and I think others can too
